William was an enslaved worker at Tuckahoe during the Allen period. He is thought to have been born sometime between 1835-1838. He is consistently listed in the Allen records with a woman named Mary Robinson. There was a considerable age difference between the two so it is not certain how they may have been related. William was one of a handful of house servants while Mary was listed as a field hand. He was the only male house servant listed during the 1850s which suggests he may have been a personal manservant to Mr. Allen.
If William and Mary Robinson did share lodging together, it is quite possible they would have lived in one of the slave quarters which still stands along Plantation Street as these were generally reserved for those that worked inside the house.
