“Though not entirely clear, it seems that Robert was eventually caught and brought back to the Allens. Robert ran away in March 1856. On an Allen account in 1858, a man named Robert Gibson is listed. Their ages do not exactly line up however they are close enough that we can make an educated guess that it is referring to the same person. In many cases, the exact birth dates of enslaved workers were not recorded so their ages would be a guess or estimation.”
