Patty was an enslaved girl who was owned by William Randolph of Turkey Island (the first Randolph to lay claim to the land which would become Tuckahoe). She is listed in William Randolph’s will as his “Indian girle” and upon his death in 1711, she was left to Randolph’s wife, Mary. Though enslaving members of Native American tribes was common in the colonial period, this is one of the few times that we see one explicitly named in any records connected to Tuckahoe.
