An enslaved man simply listed as Moses served as the blacksmith at Tuckahoe during the Allen period. He is thought to have been born sometime between 1826-1828. His name first appears on the Allen account list of 1858 and he is the only enslaved worker designated as the smith. The Old Stable building which still stands along Plantation Street was thought to have been used by the blacksmith at some point over the years. It is very possible that this is where Moses would have been working.
