Margaret was an enslaved worker who lived and worked at Tuckahoe during the Allen period. She was born on September 1, 1857 to Mahala and Spy Boyd. Her siblings were Henrietta, Chaney, Armistead, Robert, Matilda, and Thomas. She never had a chance to know her brother Armistead for he died just a few months after her birth in December 1857.
Margaret lived with her family in the South Cabin which still stands along Plantation Street. After the Civil War, she and her brother Thomas lived with their parents in the Goochland area. She and her mother, Mahala, were listed in the census of 1870 as being house servants (very likely at Tuckahoe).
