John was an enslaved worker who worked in the fields at Tuckahoe during the Allen period. His name first appears on the Allen account of 1856 simply as “John” with no last name or age. Later, the name appears again on the 1859 list as “John Turner”, this time with an age recorded as well. If this was indeed the same man, he would have been born around 1826. Below his name we see “George Turner” who was around the same age and was presumably his brother.
