Charles was an enslaved man who worked at Tuckahoe during the Allen period. He is thought to have been born sometime between 1826-1828. His name first appears on the Allen account list of 1858 where he is listed as a field hand.
After the Civil War, it seems likely that Charles remained at Tuckahoe and worked for pay under the Allens. He is listed on the 1870 census (along with several other previously enslaved workers including William Dickson and some of the Boyd family).
