Tuckahoe Plantation is pleased to welcome Anne Blackwell Thompson of Blackwell Botanicals as our artist-in-residency for 2016. A skilled artist and plantswoman, Anne is renowned in Richmond for her sophisticated and beautiful botanical artworks. Harvesting from the diverse Southern landscape, Anne meticulously presses and preserves foliage using centuries-old techniques, and then turns her bounty into stylized compositions. Anne’s passion to preserve flora and create unique art spawned Blackwell Botanicals in 2010. Since then, Blackwell Botanicals has collaborated with private collectors, designers, and landscape architects, and has features in publications such as Veranda, Victoria, and Virginia Living. As her newest project, Anne aspires to create a historical flora collection picked from Thomas Jefferson’s residencies. Tuckahoe Plantation, Jefferson’s boyhood home, welcomes Anne’s love for historical preservation.
