The gravel road just west of the main lawn is known as Plantation Street. This road is lined with many original outbuildings which acted as housing and work buildings for some of the enslaved people and indentured servants that worked here. At the north end, you will see two small square structures. The Store House, which is the first building on the left, acted as a storage shed for seasonal items: perhaps hogsheads of corn, wheat and salted meat. Just next to it, The Smokehouse is where meat was cured for prolonged storage. Smoke billowed out of the eaves, blackening the walls from the brick fire pit on the floor.
