“When Edwin Wight died in 1850, an inventory of his estate was done. Here are some things that were listed: 2 skillets, 3 waffle irons, an 8 day clock, a backgammon board, a bookcase, a green sofa, silver plated candlesticks, a carriage and harness, 73 sheep and lambs, and quite a few named livestock including the cow Blossom and her calf and the mules Patty, Jane, and Judy. In addition, about 30 enslaved workers were listed on the inventory. Wallace and Edwin Smith were given the highest valuation at $750 each suggesting that they had some sort of valuable skill, quite possibly as blacksmiths. A 3 year old child named Jordan was given the lowest valuation of $100. Edwin Wight’s entire estate was valued at $17,185 which is just under $700,000 today.”
