An old, weathered wrought iron fence surrounds the Wight family’s graves, who owned the property briefly from about 1830-1850. In this cemetery you will see a large Hardy Orange tree standing as sentinel. These thorny trees are the only citrus that can grow this far north, and were introduced to this continent by colonists. Hardy Orange trees were used as a natural fence to hedge in livestock, and marmalade was made from the bitter fruit.
